How do I measure a square or rectangular room?
Measuring a square or rectangular room is quick and easy.
Simply measure the longest length and the widest width of your room in metres, then multiply the two measurements together to calculate the total floor area in square metres (m²).
For example:
- Width: 4 metres
- Length: 4.7 metres
The total floor area is 18.8m².
When ordering flooring through the Morgan & Quinn website, simply enter the length and width of your room on the product page. Our flooring calculator will automatically work out how many packs you'll need for your chosen product.
Allow extra for wastage
We always recommend ordering a little extra flooring to allow for cuts, doorways, awkward corners and any future repairs.
The amount of extra flooring you'll need can vary depending on the layout of your room and the type of flooring you're installing.
Not sure if you've measured correctly?
If you're unsure about your measurements, don't worry. Our experienced team will be happy to help you calculate the correct quantity before you place your order. Simply get in touch and we'll guide you through the process.

How do I measure my room if it isn't square?
If your room isn't a simple square or rectangle, don't worry – it's still easy to calculate the amount of flooring you'll need.
The best method is to divide the room into smaller, more manageable rectangular sections. Measure the length and width of each section separately, calculate the area of each one, and then add the totals together to find the overall floor area in square metres (m²).
This method works well for L-shaped rooms, T-shaped rooms and other irregular layouts, helping you achieve a much more accurate measurement.
Remember to allow for wastage
When ordering flooring, it's always a good idea to allow a little extra material for cuts, awkward corners, doorways and future repairs. Ordering slightly more than your exact room size can help avoid running short during installation.

Can I order my flooring using feet, inches or yards?
When ordering flooring through the Morgan & Quinn website, all room measurements need to be entered in metres.
If you've measured your room using feet, inches or yards, you'll simply need to convert those measurements into metres before placing your order. Our website then uses those measurements to calculate the amount of flooring you'll need.
Converting your measurements
If you need to convert your measurements:
- 1 foot = 0.3048 metres
- 1 inch = 0.0254 metres
- 1 yard = 0.9144 metres
If you're unsure about your measurements or how to convert them, don't worry—we're here to help.

-
Is my carpet cut to order?
Yes. Our carpets are cut to order based on the measurements you provide when placing your order.
Once your order has been received, your chosen carpet is prepared and cut to the required size. This process usually takes around 48–72 hours before your carpet is ready for dispatch or delivery.
Check your measurements carefully
Because your carpet is cut specifically for your order, it's important to make sure your measurements are correct before completing your purchase.
If you're unsure how to measure your room, take a look at our measuring guides or contact the Morgan & Quinn team before ordering. We'll be happy to help you work out what you need.

Yes. Morgan & Quinn offers a free local measuring service to help make sure you order the right amount of carpet or flooring for your home.
Our experienced team can visit your property, take the necessary measurements and help you understand how much flooring you'll need before placing your order.
Where is the free measuring service available?
Our free measuring service generally covers properties within approximately a 25-mile radius of our Morgan & Quinn stores, covering a large part of East Yorkshire and surrounding areas.
Measuring visits are normally carried out Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm. As our team plans visits around different areas, we may not always be able to provide an exact appointment time well in advance.
What if I live further away?
If you're outside our usual local measuring area, please still get in touch.
We can sometimes travel further afield when you're purchasing your flooring from Morgan & Quinn. Speak to our team about what you're looking for and where you're based, and we'll let you know what we can arrange.
How do I arrange a free measure?

We'll explain the next steps and arrange for your property to be measured where the service is available.
-
Can I take flooring samples home from your stores?
Yes. When you visit a Morgan & Quinn showroom, you can take suitable flooring samples home with you to help you make the right choice.
Depending on the product you're considering, this could include carpet samples, laminate boards and other flooring samples that are available to take away.
Why take a flooring sample home?
Colours and textures can look very different in a showroom compared with your own home. Taking a sample away allows you to see how the flooring looks alongside your furniture, walls and décor.
It's also a good idea to look at your sample at different times of the day. Natural daylight, artificial lighting and even the direction your room faces can change how a colour appears.
You can then compare different options in the room where the flooring will actually be fitted before making your final decision.
Visit your nearest Morgan & Quinn showroom
There's no appointment needed to visit us. Simply pop into your nearest Morgan & Quinn showroom, browse the ranges and speak to our experienced team.
We'll help you narrow down your options and, wherever suitable samples are available, you can take them home before deciding which flooring is right for you.
-
Where can I buy carpet remnants and roll ends?
Morgan & Quinn has a dedicated Rolls & Remnants Store in Goole, where you can browse a wide selection of carpet remnants, roll ends and clearance flooring at great-value prices.
You'll find the store at:
Morgan & Quinn Rolls & Remnants
Dock House, Dock Street, GooleWhat can I find at the Remnants Store?
The stock available changes regularly depending on the rolls, remnants and clearance flooring we have available.
That means it's well worth visiting regularly if you're looking for a bargain, whether you need flooring for a bedroom, smaller room, rental property or another project around the home.
Because remnants and roll ends are limited by the sizes available, once a particular piece has gone, it may not be available again.
Why choose a carpet remnant?
Carpet remnants and roll ends can be a great way to get quality flooring at a lower price, particularly when you only need enough flooring for a smaller room.
Our team can help you look through what's available and find an option suitable for the size of your room and your budget.
Visit our Goole Rolls & Remnants Store
If you're looking for clearance carpets, flooring remnants or roll ends, come and see what's currently available at our dedicated Goole store.

Will my laminate or wood flooring be delivered on a pallet?
Larger orders of laminate flooring, engineered wood flooring and other heavy flooring products are often delivered on a pallet.
Using a pallet helps protect your flooring during transport, reducing the risk of damage while your order is being handled and ensuring it arrives in the best possible condition.
Whether your order is delivered on a pallet depends on the size, weight and quantity of flooring you've purchased. If pallet delivery is required, we'll let you know before your order is dispatched.
What should I expect with a pallet delivery?
Pallet deliveries are usually made using a specialist delivery vehicle and will be unloaded at the nearest safe and accessible point outside your property.
Please make sure there is suitable access for a large delivery vehicle. If you think access may be restricted, let us know when placing your order so we can advise you on the best delivery option.
Need help with your delivery?
If you have any questions about pallet deliveries or would like to discuss your order before purchasing, our friendly team will be happy to help.
-
Which delivery company do you use?
Morgan & Quinn works with a range of trusted delivery companies to ensure your order arrives safely and efficiently.
The delivery partner used for your order depends on several factors, including the type of product you've purchased, the size and weight of your order, and your delivery location. This allows us to choose the most suitable courier for each delivery.
Once your order has been processed, we'll confirm which delivery company has been assigned and provide any available delivery or tracking information.
Why do you use different delivery companies?
Different products require different delivery methods. For example, larger flooring orders may require a specialist pallet delivery service, while smaller items can often be delivered by a standard courier.
Using specialist delivery partners helps ensure your order arrives safely and in the best possible condition.
Have a question about your delivery?
If you'd like to know more about your delivery before placing an order, or you have any questions after ordering, our team will be happy to help.
